Indigenous Commitment

Advancing First Nations participation in the digital economy.

Goanna Solutions is a social enterprise founded on the belief that First Nations people, communities and enterprises should fully participate in and benefit from Australia’s digital economy. We exist to create pathways — through employment, education and enterprise — that contribute to financial inclusion, relevant skills development and self-determination for Indigenous Australians.

Why This Matters

Australia’s digital economy is growing rapidly, creating new opportunities for employment, enterprise and prosperity. Yet First Nations people continue to face significant barriers to participation.

Indigenous Australians remain underrepresented in technology and digital sectors. Educational pathways into STEM careers have not served First Nations students well. And without the skills and opportunities to participate in the digital economy, communities risk being left behind as the world becomes increasingly digitally connected.

This is not inevitable. With deliberate action, we can ensure that the benefits of digital transformation are shared — and that First Nations people are equipped to shape their own futures in an increasingly digital world.

Goanna Solutions was established to be part of that action.

Our Areas of Focus

Our social impact work centres on three interconnected areas. Progress in each contributes to the others — and together, they support a future where First Nations people can fully participate in Australia’s economy and society.

Financial Inclusion

Transformative Education

Self-Determination

The modern Australian economy is not fully inclusive. Too many First Nations people have experienced extensive obstacles to economic participation — barriers that have compounded over generations.

Goanna Solutions is working to change this. By creating pathways for First Nations people to participate in and benefit from the digital economy, we contribute to turning the tide. Every Indigenous person employed in a technology role, every Indigenous business engaged in a supply chain, and every Indigenous community connected to digital opportunity is a step toward genuine economic inclusion.

Many existing education models have proven ineffective in preparing people for a world where digital technology and capability are central. This gap is particularly acute for First Nations students, who remain underrepresented in STEM education and careers.

Goanna Solutions is committed to supporting educational pathways that equip First Nations people with relevant digital skills — capabilities that will serve them in the economy of the future. Critically, we believe this can and must be achieved while preserving and celebrating the extraordinarily rich cultural traditions that First Nations people have maintained for over 60,000 years.

Digital skills and cultural identity are not in tension. Both are strengths.

Self-determination means First Nations people having the ability to freely pursue their own economic, social and cultural development — and to make decisions on issues that affect them.

Without modern, relevant and widespread skills, this becomes harder to achieve. As the world moves deeper into digital connectivity and digital capability, participation in the digital economy becomes essential to self-determination.

Goanna Solutions is seeking to contribute to a framework that supports this. We believe that by advancing digital inclusion, education and economic participation, we help create the conditions where First Nations people and communities can chart their own course.

What We Do

Our commitment is reflected in action — through our own operations, our partnerships, and the programs we support.

Employing and Placing Indigenous Talent

Supporting Indigenous Businesses

Partnerships with Indigenous Organisations

We prioritise the employment of Indigenous Australians within Goanna Solutions wherever possible. We also actively work to identify, develop and place Indigenous candidates in roles with our clients — creating pathways into technology and digital careers that might otherwise be inaccessible.

Since 2020, Goanna Solutions has operated training programs that have equipped over 600 people with digital skills. These programs are designed to be accessible, relevant and pathway-focused — giving participants capabilities that translate into real employment and career opportunities.

We actively seek out Indigenous-owned businesses for our own supply chain needs.

Just as we ask our clients to consider Indigenous suppliers, we hold ourselves to the same standard — ensuring that our operations contribute to the broader Indigenous business ecosystem.

If you own or operate an Indigenous business or organisation, please get in touch and share your story with us. We are always keen to establish collaborative relationships with people working towards the same goals as us.

We partner with Indigenous-led and Indigenous-focused organisations that share our commitment to First Nations advancement.

Deadly Science We are particularly proud of our support for Deadly Science, an organisation working to ensure First Nations youth have pathways into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) interest and career opportunity. Deadly Science provides resources, mentorship and inspiration to Indigenous students — and we are honoured to contribute to their work.
